About the Exam
PCM Scholarship Examination 2009-2010 will be held in the months of September and November 2009.
The schedule and other details of the examination are given below:
I. The Schedule of the Examinations
1. Last date for submission of Entry Format : 18 July 2009 (Saturday)
2. Preliminary Examination (School Level) : 18 September 2009 (Friday)
3. Final Examination (National Level) : 21 November 2009 (Saturday)
4. Declaration of results : 21 January 2010 (Thursday)
English Medium students studying in LKG to Class VII in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States are eligible to appear for this examination. There will be separate examination for each class.
An amount of Rs. 60/- as examination fee has to be collected from each candidate appearing for the scholarship examination. The schools may retain Rs. 10/- per candidate from the total amount collected to meet the miscellaneous expenses incurred by the school. The balance of Rs. 50/- per candidate should be remitted in cash or by Money Order or Bank Draft payable at Ernakulam in favour of PCM Council. If sent by M.O., please specify on the M.O. coupon that the amount is towards the Scholarship Examination Fee.
IV. Awards and Scholarships:
First position : Gold medal, Scholarship of Rs. 1001/- & Merit Certificate
Second position : Silver medal, Scholarship of Rs. 701/- & Merit Certificate
Third position : Bronze medal, Scholarship of Rs 501/- & Merit Certificate
The next two positions : Special medals, Scholarship of Rs. 201/-& Merit Certificate
Students who get next positions and score marks 90% and above in LKG , UKG , 80% and above in classes I – IV and 70% and above in V – VII will receive cash awards at the rate of Rs. 125/- and a special medals. Candidates who score 60% marks and above will receive certificates. The schools which produce excellent results will be honoured with special mementos and trophies.
V. Preliminary and Final Examinations:
The Preliminary examination is a school level screening test conducted by the school authorities themselves on the date stipulated by PCM.
PCM Council will supply the Question Paper cum Answer Sheets for the examination.
The selection of candidates to the Final Examination is based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the preliminary examination.
The candidates who score 60% marks or above will be graded A, B, C based on their performance in the Preliminary and Final examinations and certificates will be issued to each category. There will be only one certificate for both the Preliminary and Final examinations.
VI. Examination Centres:
There will be Examination Centres in all the major towns and cities in India and abroad. Centres are fixed at places convenient to the participating schools.
The participating schools are requested to give their permission to PCM Council to use their schools as examination centres, if required and also make available the services of their teachers as invigilators of LKG to Class VII examinations at the neighbouring centres. These teachers will be paid a fixed amount as honorarium for their services.
The syllabus of the examination comprises General Knowledge, Mental ability and Language skills. It is thoroughly graded to suit the standard of each class. Copies of the syllabus will be sent to the participating schools for free distribution to all the candidates.
VIII. Results and Presentation of Awards:
The results of the Examination will be published on 21 January 2010 (Thursday). The results will also be available on this website on the same date. The medals and the scholarships of the students who secure first three positions in each class will be presented at a special function to be held in August 2010.
Trophies and mementos for the schools which produce excellent results will also be presented at the same function.
The scholarships awarded and the certificates of all the other candidates will be sent to the schools before their closing for the summer vacation.
The scholarships and certificates issued to the candidates are only a token of our encouragement to the children for developing their inborn talents and creative skills. These certificates do not entitle them to get admission to any course or in any institution.
IX. The Date and Procedure of sending entry formats:
Two formats are enclosed - Format No. 1 and Format No. 2. Format No.1 is meant for furnishing the class-wise number of candidates appearing in the examination. Enter the total number in the appropriate column. Note down your School Code correctly in the relevant column.
Format No.2 is meant for entering the names of the candidates. The names should be either typed or written legibly in capital letters. Instead of the formats on paper, schools can use the electronic format available here. The format on CD is also available at PCM.
Please ensure that the names and initials of the candidates entered in the format are correct. No request for change of name will be entertained after the submission of the format.
Please send both the formats duly filled in and signed by the head of the school, along with the required fee so as to reach the PCM office on or before 18 July .
