|Q. I want to be an Apprentice and learn a trade. What are the different kinds of trade, the period of training and the qualifications required for being taken on as a Apprentice?
|Ans. There are number on trades in which you can take apprenticeship. The student who has passed ITI, Diploma in Engineering and a Graduate in Engineering are normally eligible for apprenticeship. However other graduates and post graduates are also eligible at the discretion of the management.
|Q. I have completed my training as an Apprentice in a Public Sector Company owned by the Government of India. Recently, the company came out with an advertisement for recruitment of persons for the post of operator Grade III. I would like to know if I will be given an automatic n employment.
|Ans. Normally a employer is not obliged to offer any employment to any apprentice who has completed training. However, being a Public Sector Company it is possible that its recruitment rules provide for appointments to such posts to be made from existing apprentices who complete the required training with it in such a case you will be entitled to preference over others.
|Q. I want to terminate my contract of apprenticeship, what do I do?
|Ans: You can apply to the Apprenticeship Advisor for termination giving reasons. You must send a copy of your application to your employer who is entitled to file objections.
The Apprenticeship Advisor will order termination of the contract if he is satisfied that it is desirable in the interests of the two parties to terminate the contract or if he felt any of them have failed to carry out the terms and conditions of the contract.
|Q. I am an Apprentice and I would like to know the stipend, I am entitled to under the law?
|Ans: You are eligible for stipend as follows:
First Year of training Rs.680/- p.m
Second Year of training Rs.780/- p.m
Third Year of training Rs.900/- p.m
Fourth Year of training Rs.1,020/-p.m
The minimum rates of stipend payable to Graduate,Technician and Technician (Vocational) Apprentices are as follows:
- Engineering Graduate Rs.1,400/- per month (for post-institutional training)
- Sandwich course students Rs.1,000/- per month.
- Diploma Holders Rs.1,000/- per month (for post- institutional training)
- Sandwichcourse students Rs. 1010/- per month from Diploma institutions
- I.T.I./Vocational certificate holder Rs.770/- per month.
